Unless specifically asked to contact Washington offices directly,
the most effective way to send your message to your Congressmen
is through their district offices. Every Congressman has one or
more, manned by staff whose job it is to tell him/her about the
concerns of his/her constituents. A few phone calls to this office
will result in the message getting through to Washington very rapidly.
Your Representative’s district office should be given in the
government section of the phone book.
You can find his/her district office(s), fax and phone number,
and e mail by going to www.thomas.loc.gov
and looking under the House directory. If you prefer to fax or e
mail Washington, be SURE to give your home address, especially in
the message section of the e mail. Congressional staff tend to delete
e-mail from anyone who is not a constituent. The address, phone
and fax number for the individual members of Congress can be found
on the Thomas website or by calling the U.S. Capitol Switchboard,
202 224 3121. If you e-mail your Congressman, put your town and
city in the subject line. Forget regular mail to Washington. Delivery
is extremely slow because of the high security.
HOUSE EDUCATION AND THE WORKFORCE COMMITTEE
This Committee has the responsibility for drafting legislation
on education (IDEA, NCLB, and the Higher Education Act) and workforce
(vocational education, vocational rehabilitation, and adult literacy)
issues.
